Valentine's Day

This Valentine's Day, my sister-in-law Megan asked if we would mind watching Grace and Chip for the evening while she and Ted had a special date night.  (They went to one of those wine and painting places.  Hope to see pics of their artwork over on the Greens' blog soon!)  We are certainly in their debt when in comes to babysitting, so we happily accepted.

Adam and I had our game plan all set.  The kids would arrive around 5pm, they would play with Annalise in the bounce house until they could bounce no more, we would eat dinner, and then it would be bedtime.  We would be in complete control of the situation.  Riiight...

Adam manned the inside of the bounce house while I took the outside.  On reviewing these photos, I noticed that Grace had contraband (a Valentine's sucker!) in the bounce house!

Chip isn't passed out in the ball pit.  It just looks that way.

After play time in the basement, Adam truly thought we were home free.  He was completely disheartened when he realized it was only 5:45pm!!!  Nevertheless, we forged ahead with dinner.  Adam conducted story time while I cleaned up the remnants of chicken nuggets and ketchup.

Happy to report that only a few tears were shed, and all the children were sleeping peacefully when Ted and Megan arrived!  Maybe Annalise is destined to have a brother or sister after all!

The following day, we began our express stay-cation.  We had intended to plan date nights for each other as Christmas gifts, but, with the typically hectic holidays, we hadn't found time for mine.  We also had Valentine's and my birthday to celebrate, so we just wrapped it all into 24 hours of fun!  Adam and I headed up to Lawrence for what turned out to be a welcome trip down memory lane.  We kicked things off at the delicious Free State Brewery.

We had hours to kill before tipoff but had no difficulty passing the time by cruising down Mass Street, Tennessee, and Jayhawk Boulevard, telling stories as we went.  Nothing like a little nostalgia!

Next, it was game time!  Family and friends have heard me say this over and over, but I still cannot believe I went ten years in between games in Allen Fieldhouse.  Adam got us fantastic seats, which were a little high up but directly at mid-court.

We picked a good day to make our return to AFH.  Rock Chalk!

We are not young college students any more, and, after a long day in Lawrence, Adam and I were exhausted.  We had planned to go to dinner on the Plaza and stay at the Intercontinental.  Instead, we canceled our dinner reservations, ordered room service, and spent the evening sitting in our robes watching the Olympics.  Ahhh.  To borrow from a friend, "I don't know about you, but I'm feeling 32!"
